Types of materiale

The head of the puppet Freyja was cut from Styrofoam or another similar, light-weight material, which is easy to form. The surface was fortified with cotton gauze and wood glue, after which it was likely painted. Freyjar's face had a long and prominent nose, slanted eyes with glass pupils, and a prominent mouth. Her facial features were coarse. Her shoulders and chest area were made from a firm material, likely Styrofoam.

The materials used for Freyja's hair, sleeves, arms and hands were from boiled wool. Her dress was made from cotton and her necklace from leather, painted with metallic paint.

Construction/technique

Freyja was likely constructed with a rod in her head and an opening in the back of the dress, so that the puppeteer could grab hold of the puppet and steer it. It is also likely that she could move her head to the right and the left, possibly also turn it all the way around. Freyja had a rich head of hair, and the hair was long enough to cover much of her body. She signalled authority.

Her arms hung loose and moved with the movements of the body. The puppeteer could also grab hold of the puppet's arm or hand to move it. There may have been short steering rods fastened to the puppet's elbows.
