"Chicago builds on a division. The form is glamorous. The content is grim. The link is a society that is more than willing to let itself be fooled. (...) Roxie Hart (Hilde Louise Asbjørnsen) and Velma Kelly (Eli Stålhand) are the most glamorous murderesses in town. But is the limelight bright enough for them both? They sound good together, the two, but Asbjørnsen's Roxie soon conquers the star spot, in the performance as in the narrative. (...) Chicago uses familiar tricks, with self-depreciation. At the same time as it tells us how unreliably, deceitful a glittering surface is, it seduces using the same glitter. It uses sex, with a role gallery filled with uncontrollable women clad in underwear, surrounded by men who do not wear much more. Only one man is in control: Billy Flynn (Dennis Storhøi). He, though, is very much in control."
