At the webpage of Statsteatret the following, among other things, is written about 1349 – The Plague:

"Join Statsteatret in going back to 1349 and the greatest pandemic of that age. Meet the inn-keeper Svein (Gard B. Eidsvold) and his three very different sons (Cato Skimten Storengen) who struggle making ends meet. Mother' flatbread doesn't sell the way it used to, and guests are few and far between.

To this bleak place a stranger arrives one day (Kim Sørensen) with exciting spices in his suitcase. The inn-keeper's life turns from failure to success. But what has the stranger fled from? And why do all the rats in town die? Who is sneaking around in the shadow of the stranger? And why on earth does he wash his hands?

An immortal woman sing, cloaked by the night (Marit A. Andreassen). Who is she, and why am I so cold?"

Press coverage

Lillian Bikset, Pest og moro (literally: The plague and fun, a wordplay on the Norwegian expression Fest og moro, or Partyfun), Dagbladet 20.04.2012:

"1349 is written and directed by Yngve Sundvor. It is totality theatre without elaborate decorations, with a stage design so modest it can be transported in a wheelbarrow, with few effects, but efficient use of them. A bed sheet and a violin case are the most important props. Light and sound are used to trigger the imagination, in a game with theatrical duality, in which illusions and the distance to the illusions are about as significant. In the acting Cato Skimten Storengen's body language and Gard Eidsvold's eyes convey the most. The music works more as means to create a mood than as a narrative tool, and the humour goes from the pitch black gallows humour to slapstick-like clownery. 1349 brings us the serious and the joking, plague and fun. And as all good history lectures it tells us not just a little about our contemporary times."
