Peer Pressure
Peer Pressure (1997) was a dance production by The Norwegian Touring Theatre in collaboration with Black Box Teater. It was based on Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen, in a dance version by Jo Strømgren. The production went on tour the autumn of 1997, with its tour opening in Skien.
Jo Strømgren choreographed it.
The production was part of The Norwegian Touring Theatre's Peer Gynt project of 1997, in which four new adaptations of Peer Gynt went on tour in Norway. The four were Peer Gynt, Peer Pressure, Peer du lyver!* (Peer, you're lying!) and Gjøglernes Peer Gynt* (The Jesters' Peer Gynt).
*Not yet translated into the English. The title within parentheses is the Norwegian title's literal meaning.

The Oktoberdans festival program from BIT Teatergarasjen in 1997 writes the following about Peer Pressure by Jo Strømgren, Norwegian Touring Theatre and Black Box Teater:
"In Peer Pressure he (Jo Strømgren) lets go of all caution and creates a fresh and modern dance version of our popular national fairytale, Peer Gynt. The action is placed within the rehearsal to a Peer Gynt production, and as such Ibsen's play becomes a reference, a source of connotations and a registry of symbols for the real action.
Jo Strømgren wishes to say something about - and to - modern people, and he brashly 'serves himself' from Ibsen's famous text. The expression of the production varies between pure dance and theatrical acts. Central effects are situation comic, surprising contrasts and physically demanding dance sequences.
The sound image is a mix of data-based techniques and acoustic recordings - melodic parts, rhythmic sequences, continuum and a backdrop of sound. The music has been composed new by Jørgen Knudsen."
Peer Pressure by Jo Strømgren, Black Box Teater and The Norwegian Touring Theatre was nominated for The Hedda Award 1998 in production of the year category.
