Kjersti Elvik has worked for Trøndelag Theatre, where her roles include Nora in A Doll's House, Rosalind in As You Like It and Anybodys in West Side Story.

She has worked for The National Theatre, where she has interpreted roles including Ibsen's Gerd in Brand and Irene in When We Dead Awaken, Dolly in The Three Penny Opera and Helene Blom in Carousel, Maurice in Lord of the Flies and Jenny in Woodcutters (AKA Cutting Timber: An Irritation).

From 2001 to 2003 Kjersti Elvik was part of the artistic management of The Torshov Theatre.

In 2005 she was touring with The Norwegian Touring Theatre in the stage version of Ingmar Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage.

At The National Stage she acted in Shakespeare's King Lear in 2000and the role of Ellida in The Lady from the Sea in 2007.

Kjersti Elvik was nominated for The Hedda Award 2009 in the category of best supporting actress for the role of Mrs. Wurm in People Annihilation - or my Liver is Senseless by Werner Schwab, The National Stage.

In 2009 she also played in the musical Mamma Mia in Folketeatret in Oslo.

Kjersti Elvik had success in the movie versions of Anne Holt's Blind Goddess and Blessed Are Those Who Thirst in the role of Hanne Wilhelmsen. The latter movie she received The Amanda Award for.
