More about Franzisca Aarflot

Franzisca Aarflot has extensive experience with contemporary drama in Norway and abroad. Her director work is marked by musicality, rhythm and composition. She takes use of acrobatics, martial techniques, yoga, movement improvisation and dance as effects when integrating situation and text. As a playwright she varies between the poetic, the political and the brutally realistic.

Franzisca Aarflot considers the theatre a tool for recognition and change, an arena for debate and a workshop for the future. To succeed theatre has to communicate - and a generous helping of charm and entertainment won’t stand in the way of political theatre or serious subjects, she finds.

She is the recipient of a number of awards, including Fringe First 2001 for Like thunder, Espectaculo de honra, Festival Internacional de Teatro Almada, for A mata 2006, Teatro de ano 2010 Portugal for Cantigas de uma noite de verao (AKA Midsummer) by David Greig, Artistas Unidos/Teatro da Trinidade - Lisbon 2010, The Culture Scholarship of Oslo 2007, the memorial grant of Hans Heiberg 2007 (Writers' Guild of Norway) and a grant from The Norwegian Union for Stage Directors.

Franzisca Aarflot translated and directed Grounded by George Brant for Teater Innlandet in collaboration with Nordland Theatre and Franzisca Aarflot Productions in 2016. The production was nominated for The Hedda Award 2017 in the production of the year category.
