Espen Klouman Høiner won The Hedda Award 2013 in the best supporting actor category for the role of Biff Loman in Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, directed by Runar Hodne, and for the role of Ivar Zolen in Boer Boerson Jr. by Johan Falkberget/Harald Tusberg/Egil Monn-Iversen, directed by Erlend Samnøen, Trøndelag Theatre.

The Hedda Jury gave the following reason:

"The category of best supporting actor is wide. It may go to an actor who lights up a production through a small role. But there may also be a finely tuned divide between a leading role and a supporting role. The winner of the year has lightened up in small roles and played a fundamental role in a drama. He is artistic, and musical, in several meanings of the word. He doesn't give 'too' much, but exactly enough to create space for associations around a character. The award winner must be a gift to work with, for directors and actor colleagues, proven through Boer Boerson and Death of a Salesman both. This year's best supporting actor award goes to Espen Klouman Høiner."

Espen Klouman Høiner received The Hedda Award 2019 in the best text for the stage category for his text for We, the People, which he also directed.

The Hedda Jury gave the following reason for the award:

"One may think that one of the theatre's most important missions is to provide a stage for stories that are rarely heard. Besides, the stage gives a special option for concentrated listening. And this is at the centre of this year's best text for the stage: We are invited to meditate on stories from lives that seldom reaches the attention in a noisy contemporary age. This year's winner uses the tone of personal confidence. The material is documentary - poetically and exquisitely treated, yet still down to earth and without fuss in its presentation. Through careful retelling of everyday situations, the text gives space to many layers of subtext. The text is in tune with the performance's subdued, witty and finely adjusted effects, and this way we get close to individual destinies while zooming out at world politics. This combination of intimacy and distance, poetry and politics, humour and sobriety, and the insistence of beauty in what is not spectacular, make this year's best text for the stage a moving and important text with potential for recognition, nuances and understanding."

Espen Klouman Høiner has contributed to the movies Just Bea, Reprise, Switch, Upperdog and most recently in Must Have Been Love. The movie critic Manohala Dargis of New York Times suggested him and his fellow actor Anders Danielsen Lie as candidates for Oscar, in the best leading actor category, for their efforts in Reprise.

Besides his work as an actor he has also been a radio host in P3, and he is a published writer. His debut took place the autumn of 2011 with the short story collection 11 i 11, literally: 11 in 11.
