More

The Odyssey is the final production within Morten Cranner's fellowship project at The National Academy of Theatre, Oslo National Academy of the Arts - The Acoustic Act. His project has been to develop a musical theatre genre in which the actors are musicians within a sound-producing stage design, a stage design doubling as a performance space and musical instrument. The text and actions of the actors are to leave traces in the space and become the music of the performance, as played from within the performance.

Press coverage

Tora Ferner Lange, Tekststyrt Odyssé (literally: Textually commanded Odyssey), 14.11.2013, Scenekunst.no:
"This is the last of two performances in Malersalen at The National Theatre in which he examines sound-producing stage design and lets the actors double as musicians. [...] Here the text and narrative seem to be the foundation. [...] builds on one instrumental idea: two stretches of stones hanging on a line from the roof, attached to each their string. The strings are piano strings, and the sound is enhanced by microphones, like an electric guitar, and the weight of the stones keep them tight so that they give off sounds when the strings vibrate. [...] The actors put in an impressive effort, they both tell the story and play the strings at the same time, without losing the spark of the performance."
