The Bible

Part 1: Ørkenvandringar* (Desert Wanderings), Part 2: Jesus frå Nasaret* (Jesus from Nazareth)

The Bible is a theatre production in two parts, produced by The Norwegian Theatre in 2013, based on The Bible and on new texts by ten writers. The production was performed at the theatre's main stage.

Stein Winge directed it.

The Bible was performed as a marathon double-bill performance with a break for food, and as two separate full-length performances, called The Bible: Part 1, subtitled Ørkenvandringar (literally: Desert Wanderings), and The Bible: Part 2, subtitled Jesus frå Nasaret (literally: Jesus from Nazareth). The first part found its content in The Old Testament, the second in the new.

Kyrre Hellum was nominated for The Hedda Award 2013 in the best supporting actor category for his efforts in The Bible.

At the webpage of The Norwegian Theatre the following, among other things, is written about The Bible:

"Part 1: Ørkenvandringar (literally: Desert Wanderings)
The first part finds it material in The Old Testament. Here humans are wandering. They wander through the ages, they wander the desert, they search for meaning, they are on an eternal quest for a better life, a promised land, a new beginning. God is always present, but he is not easily understood. Often he punishes people for not obeying him. But the humans do not learn, and the desert wanderings have no end. In Ørkenvandringar we meet Moses, Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah and Isaac, Job, King Saul and King David, Laban and his family, Joseph and his brothers, refugees and outcasts, angels and the animals of the Ark.

Part 2: Jesus frå Nasaret (literally: Jesus from Nazareth)
God changes strategies. Punishment and obedience have no effect on the humans. The law doesn't give all the answers. The new message is love. Satan comes, and the world becomes a battle between good and evil. We follow the life of Jesus until crucifixion. He is a rebel. He is dangerous to those in power, for the Pharisees, the priesthood, for Herod, but also for zealots and others with no liking for the message about love. Jesus doubts, and Jesus believes. Finally he walks the hard way into death. What happens after that? That is a question of belief."
