Press coverage

Lillian Bikset, Grunn Messias (literally: Shallow Messiah), Dagbladet September 4 2009:

"Hans-Erik Dyvik Husby has natural credibility as a megalomaniac seducer of the masses, a fanatic-demagogic leader and charismatic superstar. His expression belongs to the rock star, not the actor. His range of expression is limited, and in the whole first act he seems stiff and contrived, free only when he sings, but then his body language and mimicry are like they could have been during any other concert. That the spectators would likely have connected his Jesus to Hank von Helvete anyway, is likely. But here they are encouraged to, not just through his performance. It is as if director Ulfsby, stage designer Nora Furuholmen and musical leader Svenn Erik Kristoffersen have built their whole production around Husby's other stage personality. (...) Clearest, the production's weaknesses are in the first act. After the interval and the confrontation between Jesus and Judas, Jesus Christ Superstar finds a nerve it lacked in the first half. Sombre resignation sets in. The ruling mood is desperation. Hans-Erik Dyvik Husby enters a deeper phase of his interpretation of the role and seems sincerely suffering, pained. At this time, Frank Kjosås also takes the breaks off. The sequence with Judas' breakdown and suicide is the very, very strongest in the production, and this, as the scenes following it, shows very clearly what kind of production this could have been, had Ulfsby & company managed to cultivate the content more than the effects the whole musical through."
