Orpheus

Orpheus is an opera by Terje Rypdal, created on commission from Henie Onstad Art Centre.  Orpheus was inspired by the myth of Orpheus.

The libretto was written by the Danish writer Kaj Nissen, and had formerly been produced as an audio play by Danish Broadcasting Corporation, at the time using the title Orfeus vender sig og ser på Eurydike (literally: Orpheus turns and looks at Eurydice).

Orpheus, performed using the Norwegian title Orfeus vender seg og ser på Eurydike (literally: Orpheus turns and looks at Eurydice), had its world premiere at Henie Onstad Art Centre in 1972. You may read about the world premiere here.
