Neil LaBute's first movie, In the Company of Men, won the award The Filmmakers Trophy at Sundance Film Festival, as well as other awards and nominations from Deauville Film Festival, Independent Spirit Awards, Thessaloniki Film Festival, Society of Texas Film Critics' Awards and New York Film Critics Circle.

His next movie was Your Friends & Neighbours with Aaron Eckhart and Ben Stiller.

In 2000 he wrote a series of short dramatic texts titled Bash: Latter-Day Plays. These pieces were performed off-Broadway with a cast including Calista Flockhart, among others.

The Mercy Seat was one of the very first American plays to deal with the attack on World Trade Center September 11 2001. Sigourney Weaver played in the original production of it.

In 2006 LaBute directed the remake of The Wicker for Man for Warner Bros. Pictures with Nicolas Cage in the leading role. He also directed the American remake of the film Death at a Funeral.

In 2008 he wrote the play Reasons to Be Pretty, performed at the Broadway theatre Lyceum Theatre. The production was nominated for three Tony Awards.

The play The Break of Noon was performed at MCC in Manhattan in 2010 with David Duchovny, among others. The play The Unimaginable was produced at Southwark Playhouse in London the same year.
