Carl Jørgen Kiønig (born March 9 1949) is a Norwegian director, playwright, translator and formerly a theatre musician.

Among the plays he have staged are Night is Mother to the Day by Lars Norén (Rogaland Theatre), En annen historie* (Another History) by Else Michelet (Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation's TV drama division) and Tottering House by Maria Jotuni (The Torshov Theatre).

Carl Jørgen Kiønig also is known for staging Sam Shepherd's plays: True West (The Norwegian Theatre) and the TV version of Curse of the Starving Class (1986). Further he has staged other productions at Rogaland Theatre, including The Foreigner by Larry Shue in 1992. He also directed Shue for The National Theatre in 1998, The Nerd. He staged the musical Phantasma (The Norwegian Theatre 2003).

For The Norwegian Theatre Carl Jørgen Kiønig has directed productions including Lars Norén's Chaos is the Neighbour of God (2006) and Robert Wilson's The Black Rider (1998), and for The National Theatre he has, among other things, directed Ibsen's Brand (1990), Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment (1991), Alan Ayckbourn's Henceforward (1991), David Hare's Skylight (1995), Alex Brinchmann's Carousel (2000) and David Hare's Breath of Life (2008).

Kiønig won The Amanda Award 1987 for the TV movie Getting Out and The Amanda Award for best motion picture in 1998, for Blessed Are Those Who Thirst.

Carl Jørgen Kiønigdirected Amadeus, produced by Trøndelag Theatre and Oslo Nye Teater (Oslo New Theatre) in collaboration in 2001. The production won The Hedda Award 2001 in the best production category.
